Joerg Hardt celebrates flag-to-flag win – Mamerow takes points’ lead
Stuttgart. With a convincing flag-to-flag victory, Joerg Hardt (Germany) claimed his first win of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland season. The 27-year-old HP Team Herberth PZ Olympiapark pilot had taken up the second championship round of Europe’s fastest one-make cup from pole position. After the start, Hardt defended his lead, held it over the entire 22-lap race distance and crossed the finish line in first after 34:18.116 minutes.Following seventh-tenths of a second behind, his compatriot Chris Mamerow saw the chequered flag in second. The 23-year-old student, who drives for the Mamerow Racing PZ Essen team, started from second on the grid and with an immaculate drive successfully maintained this position to the finish. With this result, Mamerow, who has already claimed second at the season-opener in Hockenheim, is the new points’ leader in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland drivers’ championship.
In the second half of the race, a gripping fight for positions raged behind the duo for third place. After Jan Seyffarth (Germany), who had started from third on the grid, attacked Chris Mamerow in the first laps, he fell back at the half-way mark to come under pressure from Nicolas Armindo (France). In lap 15 the French ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen driver used his chance to overtake Seyffarth and climbed the podium in third. SMS Seyffarth Motorsport pilot Jan Seyffarth saw the flag in fourth.
Fifth position went to quadruple Supercup champion Patrick Huisman (Netherlands), who competes for the Hermes Attempto Racing PZ Nürnberg squad. René Rast (Germany), who had travelled to the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben as points’ leader after winning the Hockenheim race, secured sixth. Philipp Wlazik (Germany) and Jiri Janak (Czech Republic) ranked seventh and eighth respectively. Contesting his second Carrera Cup season, UPS-Porsche-Junior Martin Ragginger (Austria) occupied ninth position in front of Carl-Olov Carlsson (Sweden). The next championship round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland takes place on Sunday (4 May) in the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello (Italy).
Joerg Hardt (winner): “I’m totally happy. The car that my Herberth team prepared for me was simply super. What a perfect weekend. It can continue like this.”
Chris Mamerow (second): “The race ran well right from the start. At the beginning Jan put me under pressure which gave Joerg a chance to pull away. In the second half of the race I was very quick and caught up to him. But I didn’t find a chance to overtake. Still, I’m really pleased with second. And the main thing is I’m leading the championship!”
Nicolas Armindo (third): “Like at Hockenheim I had another great race. It’s very difficult to overtake in Oschersleben. I was waiting for a long time for the right chance to go for Jan. When I finally managed it I didn’t have enough time to catch Chris.”
