Jeroen Bleekemolen celebrates first Carrera Cup win on home track
Stuttgart. Jeroen Bleekemolen (Netherlands) left his rivals no chance at the fourth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. On his home circuit, the ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen pilot celebrated a clear light to flag victory after an immaculate race over 19 laps. With this triumph on the dune circuit in Zandvoort, situated just a few kilometres from his parents’ house, the reigning champion of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup ended a long dry spell in the Carrera Cup: Although the win was his tenth overall in a Porsche makes cup series, it was his first in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.The 27-year-old ex-DTM pilot had already given an excellent performance in Saturday’s qualifying session with pole position, which he then underlined in the race. After the lights went out he won the sprint to the first corner and held the lead position until the flag. Jeroen Bleekemolen took only 33:27.218 minutes to reach the finish line after 19 laps on the Dutch coast circuit, and in the process turned the fastest lap to win the race twelve seconds ahead of the second place-getter – marking the clearest advantage of the season.
Second went to Sweden’s Jimmy Johansson, who last year concluded the Seat Leon Supercopa as vice champion and this year competes for Hermes Attempto Racing. At just his fourth Porsche race by now, this is the 25-year-old’s best result so far in the Carrera Cup.
Last year’s Zandvoort winner, Jan Seyffarth (Germany), planted his 420 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup on third place. The tolimit/Seyffarth Motorsport pilot crossed the finish line a close four-tenths of a second behind Johansson, who he had put under pressure from half way through the race. With his podium result, the former Porsche Junior moves into the overall points’ lead.
Trailing Johansson and Seyffarth by just a few tenths of seconds were two new-comers to the Carrera Cup Nicki Thiim (Denmark, Hermes Attempto Racing) and Sebastian Asch (Germany, Schnabl Engineering PZ Niederrhein) on positions four and five respectively.
The double race winner Thomas Jäger (Germany, MS Racing PZ Hamburg Nord-West), who had travelled to the Netherlands as points’ leader, saw the chequered flag in eighth. For the 10-lap sprint, the former DTM pilot had qualified his Porsche on second. Due to jumped start, Jäger received a drive-through penalty and for a short time was running in 15th.
Jeroen Bleekemolen (winner): “What a perfect weekend. Everything ran like clockwork. For the first time we experienced no problems. My team worked very hard for this victory and I thank them. Of course this first win is psychologically very important for me. Maximum points also mean that I’m back in the fight for the title. But from now on I have to bring home consistent top results.”
Jimmy Johansson (second): “My strategy was to stick behind the first three. But then I got away excellently at the start and came out of the first corner in second. The Porsche was absolutely brilliant today. I was able to pull away from my opponents early on. At about the half way mark my tyres began to deteriorate and that gap diminished somewhat. But I didn’t have a problem defending my position. I’m over the moon about my first podium result with the Porsche.”
Jan Seyffarth (third): “I came to Zandvoort in second and leave as points’ leader. What more could you want? I’m very pleased with my weekend. My qualifying could have rn a bit better but at the end of the day everything is looking good.”
