Jan Seyffarth secures clear win at home race
Stuttgart. At the fifth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, Jan Seyffarth left his rivals no chance and confirmed his role as the favourite. In the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, the 23-year-old tolimit/Seyffarth-Motorsport pilot, who lives about 100 kilometres south of Oschersleben, won by more than three and half seconds. After the start, Seyffarth briefly lost the lead to his front-row opponent Thomas Jäger (Germany, MS Racing PZ Hamburg Nord-West), but managed to reclaim the top of the field just a few seconds later. Putting in an immaculate drive over 22 laps, the former Porsche-Junior received the flag after 34:14.062 minutes and further extended his advantage in the overall rankings of the renowned Carrera Cup.Trailing the race winner, ex-DTM pilot Thomas Jäger crossed the finish line in an unchallenged second position. After a very good start, the 32-year-old snatched the lead only to leave the track briefly after a nudge with Seyffarth. Robert Renauer saw his chance (Germany, Farnbacher Racing) to overtake, relegating Jäger into third. In the tenth race lap, Jäger then reclaimed second and held on to this position to the finish line.
From the last third of the race, a gripping fight developed for the last podium step. Jeroen Bleekemolen (Netherlands, ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen) and Sebastian Asch (Germany, Schnabl Engineering PZ Niederrhein) caught up to Renauer running in third and put him under pressure until the final lap. Again and again, the trio approached the corners nose to tail with their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racers and drew alongside each other on the straights. At the flag the 24-year-old Renauer had defended his podium position with a commendable performance and celebrated his best result this season. Bleekemolen, the reigning champion of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, had to settle for fourth. At the wheel of his 420 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, youngster Asch secured fifth – repeating his top five result from Zandvoort.
Jan Seyffarth (winner):”I’m extremely happy with my victory. In a Porsche I’ve never managed to win a home race. At last it’s happened! I’m sorry about my nudge with Thomas. I simply couldn’t avoid it – I came out of the corner with too much speed. I received a warning for it and I spoke to Thomas about the incident. Things like this happen in motorsport.”
Thomas Jäger (second): “I’m very pleased with second. After the lights went out I made a sensational start, took the lead but ended up in the grass with all four wheels after the incident with Jan. Luckily I didn’t fly off completely. I rejoined the race in third place, but spent the next few laps getting rid of the dirt on my tyres. I then attacked and made up time. My lap times were very consistent and my car was perfectly prepared.”
Robert Renauer (third): “Everything ran really well early on in the race. I made a great start and maintained the pace of the leader. But from lap eight I had to contend with deteriorating tyres. I wasn’t able to hold Thomas off, he was faster and I had to let him pass. Towards the end things got tight with Jeroen and Sebastian. I have to admit that Jeroen was faster than me, but because we only had a couple of laps to go I pulled out all stops to defend my podium result. It worked. Things can continue like this!”
