Leading trio pulls away in the overall standings
Stuttgart. Three drivers have pulled away from the rest of the field at the half way mark of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. Leading the overall classification is the former Porsche Junior Jan Seyffarth (Germany, tolimit/Seyffarth-Motorsport) holding 88 points, ahead of his compatriot Thomas Jäger (MS Racing PZ Hamburg Nord-West) with 84 points. Ranking third overall with 73 points is Jeroen Bleekemolen (Netherlands, ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen), the reigning champion of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup.Seyffarth travels as the favourite to the sixth round of the championship on the 3.6 kilometre sprint version of the Nürburgring on Sunday. Last year the young hotspur won the 23-lap race on the Eifel circuit and for this reason feels optimistic. “Everything’s running smoothly,” said Seyffarth. “I’m feeling great and my team is doing a super job. Why shouldn’t I climb to the top of the podium at the Nürburgring? I’ve already shown that the track suits me.”
Another driver in top form this season is Thomas Jäger. The 32-year-old racer from Munich has started the last five races from the front row, claiming two wins and two second places. He is eager to continue his top performance on the Nürburgring and continue his charge for the overall lead.
Rival Jeroen Bleekemolen has his sights on the same goal on the shortened Grand Prix circuit in the Eifel region. The 27-year-old experienced a slow start to the season before fighting his way up to currently hold third place. On the dune track of Zandvoort, just a few kilometres away from his parents’ home, the current points’ leader of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup broke the long dry spell and celebrated his long-awaited first victory in the Carrera Cup Deutschland.
Contesting his first season for the Hermes Attempto Racing team, Nicki Thiim (Denmark) comes to the sixth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland highly motivated. The 20-year-old takes up the race on the Nürburgring ranking fourth overall. Hot on his heels is youngster Robert Renauer, whose recent third in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben put him back in touch with the front-runners. Unlike Thiim, the 24-year-old Farnbacher Racing pilot is regarded as a Porsche specialist, having contested the renowned brand trophy series since 2003.
