First pole position for Robert Renauer
Stuttgart. Robert Renauer (Germany) secured his first pole position in qualifying for the seventh round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutchland. In a gripping qualifying session, he left his opponents no chance and turned the quickest lap in a time of 1:13.666 minutes. The 24-year-old pilot, who competes for Farnbacher Racing and has contested the renowned brand trophy series since 2003, takes up the 27-lap sprint on the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona (Spain) from the first grid position.Lining up alongside Renauer for Sunday’s race (20 August) is Jeroen Bleekemolen (Netherlands, ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen). The reigning champion and current points’ leader of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup had topped the time lists until five minutes before the end of the qualifying session but was finally beaten to pole position by six-hundreths of a second. Jan Seyffarth (Germany, tolimit/Seyffarth Motorsport) again underlined his top form. The former Porsche-Junior, who currently shares the lead of the Carrera Cup drivers’ classification with Thomas Jäger (Germany, MS Racing PZ Hamburg Nord-West) posted the third quickest qualifying time. His closest rival in the fight for the coveted title was only able to bring home sixth on the 2.98 kilometre race track. On Sunday, 23-year-old Seyffarth has the chance to take the lead alone. By now, Thomas Jäger and Jan Seyffarth have swapped the lead position four times.
Patrick Hirsch secured his best qualifying result to date. Driving for Konrad Motorsport, the German was just three-tenths of a second off the pole-setting time in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The 24-year-old takes off from fourth position on the grid for the first time. The fifth spot went to Sean Edwards. In Barcelona, the 22-year-old Briton starts as a guest driver for Hermes Attempto Racing. Last year, Edwards won two rounds in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup.
Florian Stoll (Germany, MS Racing PZ Hamburg Nord-West) and the Danish hotshot Nicki Thiim (Hermes Attempto Racing) share the fourth row in positions seven and eight respectively. Rounding off the top ten on the grid for round seven of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland are Hannes Plesse (Germany, Schnabl Engineering) in ninth and Sweden’s Jimmy Johansson (Hermes Attempton Racing) in tenth.
Robert Renauer (pole-sitter): “It’s about time I qualified at the front. I had the perfect run recently - third in Oschersleben, second on the Nürburgring and now I’m on pole – fantastic. I’m confident it will stay like this and we’ll finish the season in the same way. I felt very good on the track today. The first and second sector were not 100 percent, but in the third sector I noticed that I was very quick, and I knew that if I survived the final corner my time would be bombastic.”
Jeroen Bleekemolen (second qualifier): “I’m very pleased with my time. All that was missing was the ultra fast lap. The problem was probably that we were too consistent. But still, you can do a lot from the first grid row. My car is excellently set-up for this circuit. Things are looking good for tomorrow, so anything can happen.”
Jan Seyffarth (third qualifier): “At first I thought nothing would work today. Compared to the others we seemed quite slow. So we totally changed the set¬-up – like we did last year. Then it was really good. I set the top times in the first and second sector, but in the third I was off the pace slightly. Never mind. I’m third on the grid and I feel my start will be good tomorrow. Then it’s further up the points’ table for me.”
The television station DSF broadcasts highlights of the seventh championship round on Sunday evening in its “Motorsportmagazin” programme. N-TV telecasts a round-up in its “Speed” programme on Tuesday (22 September) and in the DTM Magazine on DMAX on Sunday (27 September).
