The great duel: Jäger against Bleekemolen
Stuttgart. The fight for the title of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland goes down to the wire. With just two races left on the calendar, two drivers go head-to-head determined to claim the overall win. The duel between Thomas Jäger (Germany) and Jeroen Bleekemolen (Netherlands) could take a decisive turn this coming Sunday on the Circuit de Dijon-Prenois (France).Thomas Jäger travels to the 3.8 kilometre circuit in the Département Côte-d’Or at the top of the points’ table. The 32-year-old former DTM driver snatched back the championship lead after claiming sixth place at the previous round in Barcelona (Spain). So far this season, the MS Racing PZ Hamburg Nord-West team pilot has won the races on the EuroSpeedway, the Norisring and the Nürburgring. In Dijon he has all the right cards up his sleeve: With another victory here, Jäger could secure the coveted championship title before the final round.
Jeroen Bleekemolen is determined to prevent this. Competing for the ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen squad, the Dutchman joined the fight for Cup honours with his win at Barcelona. In the international Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, which he won in 2008, Bleekemolen is also on a steady course for the title. Should he manage to win, the 27-year-old will be the second pilot in the history of Porsche’s brand trophy series to take home both titles after Frank Stippler (Germany) in 2003.
Jan Seyffarth (Germany, tolimit/Seyffarth Motorsport), however, had to give up his charge for the championship. The former Porsche-Junior, who had shared the points’ lead with Jäger after six of seven races, was forced out of contention after an accident in Spain. He collided in the first corner with Sebastian Asch (Germany, Schnabl Engineering) and was transported to hospital with a suspected broken thighbone. This was luckily not the case. However, due to a fissure in his hip joint socket, the 23-year-old will not be competing in Dijon.
Sebastian Asch is back in the race in France. The 23-year-old youngster was released from the Barcelona clinic on the same day after undergoing a routine medical check.
