Jäger or Bleekemolen: Duel for the title at season finale
Stuttgart. Suspense to the finish: Only at the ninth and final race of the season on the Hockenheimring this coming Sunday will the winner of this year’s Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland be announced. Two rivals, former DTM pilots Thomas Jäger (Germany) and Jeroen Bleekemolen (Netherlands), are locked in the fight for championship honours.Holding the best cards in the duel for the title is 32-year-old Thomas Jäger competing for the MS Racing PZ Hamburg Nord-West team. In the overall classification, he ranks first in the championship with a nine-point advantage. Should he cross the finish line ahead of Bleekemolen, the title will be his. Should he receive the flag behind the Dutchman, his position will determine the outcome. If Bleekemolen wins and is awarded the maximum 20 points, Jäger would need to finish at least fifth in order to win the series.
Things look very promising for Thomas Jäger. However, with a spirited chase during the second half of the season, Jeroen Bleekemolen has shown he is not about to give up on the fight for the title. The ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen pilot brought home victory from the last two rounds in Barcelona (Spain) and Dijon (France), catapulting him into second place in the overall standings. In the international Porsche Mobil1 Supercup he is on track to claim the title. With this, the 27-year-old has a good chance to take double honours, an achievement which by now only Frank Stippler (Germany) has managed in 2003.
Thomas Jäger took over the points lead after round six on the Nürburgring. So far this season, the top position has changed four times between Jäger and the former Porsche-Junior Jan Seyffarth (Germany). Competing for tolimit/Seyffarth Motorsport, the 23-year-old youngster has had to relinquish all hopes of winning the title. At the Barcelona race, he retired after an accident and had to take a break at the following round in Dijon. For the season finale on the Hockenheimring, he is planning his comeback and is determined to defend his third position in the overall standings.
Round 9 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland starts on Sunday, 25th October, at 11.35 hours and is contested over a race distance of 18 laps (82.332 kilometres).
Drivers’ classification after eight of nine rounds:
1. Thomas Jäger, 136 points
2. Jeroen Bleekemolen, 127 points
3. Jan Seyffarth, 104 points
4. Robert Renauer, 94 points
5. Nicki Thiim, 85 points
