Pursuers eager to stop Nick Tandy’s winning streak
Stuttgart. Nick Tandy is the big surprise in the 2010 Carrera Cup Deutschland. At the wheel of his Konrad Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, the 25-year-old Briton seized pole position and victory at both the season-opener in Hockenheim and in Valencia. Now, on 6th June on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, his pursuers are determined to halt Tandy’s charge to the top.Travelling to the third round on the 3.478 kilometre circuit close to Dresden as the toughest rival to the points’ leader is Niclas Kentenich (Farnbacher Racing - PZN). The 21-year-old German is confident. “In the past I didn’t much like this circuit, but since last year I’ve cracked it perfectly,” he says. “It’s important to get a good grid position because there are only two places where you can overtake. But even then, the leader can easily slam the door and things get seriously tight.”
Kentenich knows what he’s talking about. After many laps in the lead, it was exactly this scenario that led to his retirement here last year – as it was for Christian Engelhart (MRS Team PZ Aschaffenburg). After securing good results in qualifying to now, only to be kicked out of contention in the races, the 23-year-old from Germany has a score to settle. “I like the Eurospeedway Lausitz. Where the track turns into the oval you almost brush up against the wall – it’s a nail-biter every time. I’m aiming for the podium.” Three pilots occupying positions three to five lie in wait, ready to pounce: Robert Renauer from Germany (Herberth Motorsport PZ Olympiapark) as well as his teammate Uwe Alzen (Germany) and Nicolas Armindo (France, Hermes Attempto Racing). By now, the Frenchman was the only driver who has managed at times to give Tandy a run for his money.
Three young hopefuls, who receive support as “Porsche Motorsport Talents”, are eager to validate their improving form on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz. Harald Schlegelmilch (Konrad Motorsport) from Latvia retired from the previous round, whilst Tim Sandtler (MRS Team PZ Aschaffenburg) and Ferdinand Stuck (Germany, Farnbacher Racing - PZN) achieved an excellent eleventh and twelfth.
Television station Motorvision broadcasts the race on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz live on 6 June from 11.10 hours, Sport1 televises highlights at 21.30 hours. Further magazine reports are shown on n-tv as well as DMAX.
