New platform, revamped junior sponsorship programme, more prize money
Stuttgart. When the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland takes off into its 29th season on 13 April, 2018, teams, drivers and fans can look forward to a raft of new developments: At the top of the list is the series’ new race calendar: For the first time, most of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland races will be contested as support to the ADAC GT Masters. A new highlight that will appeal to fans: The two races on each weekend now start at set times: The rounds on Saturday will get the green light immediately after the first ADAC GT Masters race. Sunday’s races get underway before the second GT Masters race.The 2018 season-opener of the one-make cup takes place in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, with two of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland race weekends held outside Germany: at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, and at the Circuit Park Zandvoort in the Netherlands. The Nürburgring and the Sachsenring are other venues in Germany, with Hockenheim hosting the season finale. A total of 16 races over eight weekends make up the 2018 calendar.
From 2018, the one-make cup series launches its new Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland Talent Pool programme, offering talented young racing drivers a training platform and launching pad into professional motor racing. Instead of a Porsche Junior, from 2018, all registered drivers aged 23 or under receive support. This backing runs for a maximum of two years and includes fitness tests with individualised training programmes as well as mental and media coaching. Moreover, the eligible drivers receive one free set of tyres per race weekend.
The talented youngsters also receive support from the experienced Porsche pilot Wolf Henzler, who will attend every round of the Carrera Cup Deutschland as a driver coach. “With the Porsche Carrera Cup Talent Pool, we’ve initiated a broad-based youth development programme. We’re particularly pleased to have Wolf Henzler on board as a mentor. Wolf is one of the most successful Porsche drivers. Moreover, at the end of the season, we now have the chance to nominate one of the young drivers for the worldwide selection programme for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. From this shoot-out, a Porsche Junior will be chosen. This gives young drivers a fantastic opportunity to further their motorsport careers,” says Oliver Köppen, the project manager of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.
Prize money, too, receives a boost: From 2018, a total of 550,000 Euro are up for grabs for participating teams and drivers in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland – representing a ten percent increase compared to last year.
Again in 2018, the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland enjoys high visibility with a comprehensive media and TV package. All races will be broadcast either live or delayed to later in the day, and are also supplemented by background reports. Moreover, the news channel n-tv provides a glimpse into the world of the popular racing series with its 30-minute magazine “PS – Porsche Carrera Cup”. The show runs every Monday after the race weekend from 18.30 hours. In 2018, onboard cameras provide live footage for the first time.
Online activities will also be significantly expanded, bringing fans even closer to the action. All rounds can be viewed via live streaming on a computer or via mobile devices. The Carrera Cup Deutschland races will be broadcast live on porsche.de/carreracup as well as a variety of other online platforms, and on Facebook under @carreracupgermany. The Twitter channel @PorscheRaces as well as the Instagram account @porsche_newsroom offer a look behind the scenes, providing news on drivers, teams and their race cars.
