Jeroen Bleekemolen sets pole on home track
Stuttgart. At the fourth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland in the Circuit Park Zandvoort, Jeroen Bleekemolen (Netherlands) starts from pole position. On his home track, situated a few kilometres from his parents’ home in Aerdenhout, the 27-year-old ex-DTM pilot managed to achieve his first pole. The ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen team pilot secured a clear pole in a time of 1:42.365 minutes and relegated points’ leader Thomas Jäger (Germany) to second on the grid by around 16-thousandths of a second. In the international Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, Bleekemolen is doing very well. The reigning champion has so far climbed the podium at every round this season. On Sunday (19 July) he is determined to bring home his first Carrera Cup victory from the 19-lap sprint on the Dutch coast.After two victories and two pole positions in succession, 32-year-old Jäger’s time was only enough to put the MS Racing PZ Hamburg Nord-West pilot alongside the swift Dutchman. Like at the last three rounds, the current points’ leader again starts from the front row.
Third in qualifying went to the former Porsche Junior Jan Seyffarth (Germanz). The 23-year-old pilot driving for tolimit-Seyffarth Motorsport was just 33-hundredths of a second shy of Jäger’s top time and shares the second row with Cup newcomer Jimmy Johannnson (Sweden, Hermes Attempto Racing).
Niclas Kentenich (Germany, tolimit/Seyffarth Motorsport) qualified his Porsche on fifth for the dune race. Sixth in qualifying was Sebastian Asch’s (Germany, Schnabl Engineering PZ Niederrhein) best performance to date. The 23-year-old youngster, who was vice champion of the 2007 Seat Leon Supercopa, contests his first season this year in the 420 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Taking up the race from positions seven to nine are Florian Stoll (Germany, MS Racing PZ Hamburg Nord-West), the reigning champion of the Seat Leon Supercopa Nicki Thiim (Denmark, Hermes Attempto Racing) and Russia’s David Sigachev from tolimit/Seyffarth Motorsport. Jeroen Bleekemolen’s brother Sebastiaan, who contests the Zandvoort round as a guest driver for the ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen squad, rounds off the top ten.
Brazilian Valdeno Brito (Konrad Motorsport), who races here in the Circuit Park for the first time, planted his Porsche on 13th in qualifying. Having only ever raced on Brazilian tracks, he prepared for the Carrera Cup races through studying onboard footage and playing computer games.
Jeroen Bleekemolen (pole-setter): “I am naturally very pleased with this result. It’s something very special to start from pole in front of home crowds. But I’m even happier about securing my first pole position in the Carrera Cup. We always had the speed but we also experienced problems. The team worked hard to bring home pole position here in Zandvoort. We said we could do it and now we’ve proved it. This is how things should continue.”
Thomas Jäger (second qualifier): “I’m very pleased with second. Firstly, things didn’t quite go to plan today. My car didn’t feel so good and I slid. Then we changed a few minor things and eventually it worked. For the race second is a good starting point. It’ll certainly be an exciting race.”
Jan Seyffarth (third): “I’m not at all happy. I actually felt quite good on my laps. The team and I did everything, but I just couldn’t do more today. We think we know what the problem is, but it’s not something we can easily fix. The main thing now is not to lose too many points and to stay within striking distance of the lead.”
The television station DSF broadcasts highlights of the fourth round in its “Motorsportmagazin” programme on Sunday evening. Highlights are shown on N-TV in the “Speed” programme on Tuesday (21 July).
