“This is absolutely crazy: from footballer to racing driver in one of the fastest racing cars in the world,” says Agüero. “Every child is familiar with Porsche. The brand represents an iconic heritage, particularly in motorsport. With this in mind, I am absolutely delighted and would like to thank everyone involved for this unique opportunity. I want to learn as much as possible on my journey to Miami, and to represent the team as well as possible when we get there.”
Top athlete and an elite race car: Sergio Agüero and the Porsche 99X Electric
The all-electric Porsche 99X Electric accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just under 2 seconds. It possesses one of the most efficient electric drive trains in the world: roughly half the energy required for a race is generated by the car itself – through brake energy recuperation. The car’s clever software allows it to independently adjust its settings for every individual corner on a racetrack. The result: maximum e-performance.

On his way to becoming a one-off racing driver, Agüero is undergoing racetrack training at the wheel of road-going Porsche sports cars. The Argentinian is receiving intensive training from the Porsche e-sports works team and testing himself in Porsche Motorsport’s state-of-the-art simulators. He is also being supported by reigning Formula E world champion Pascal Wehrlein, whose guidance will prove particularly important at the culminating event in Miami. The German won the Formula E world title with Porsche last July and recently impressed with three pole positions in a row.

Porsche in Formula E
2024/2025 sees Porsche contest its sixth Formula E season. In addition to the works TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, American customer team Andretti Formula E is entering the Porsche 99X Electric of the latest GEN3 Evo generation. With the addition of Cupra Kiro, this season will be the first time that a second Porsche customer team has entered the series; they will be using 99X technology of the previous GEN3 generation. Formula E gives the brand valuable insights for its production sports cars.
