Rain started to fall as the international field featuring drivers from 14 nations lined up on the grid at midday. Despite the wet conditions, Schuring made a perfect start from pole position in his 520 hp Porsche 911 Cup and immediately pulled away at the front. Behind the 19-year-old, Oeverhaus reacted quickly when the lights went out and moved up from third to second place. Target driver Tauscher lost one position and settled into third. On lap six, the safety car was deployed after a car became stranded in the gravel. Schuring kept his composure during the restart and once again managed to pull clear of his pursuers. After twelve laps, Schuring, Oeverhaus and Tauscher parked beneath the podium to collect their trophies. “The conditions changed throughout the race. Towards the end, the track started to dry slightly and I even had to cool the tyres down at times. I’m very happy with my weekend and pleased to be leading the championship,” explained Oeverhaus. With 100 points, the ID Racing driver tops the standings ahead of Tauscher on 94 points. South African Keagan Masters (Proton Competition) sits third with 84 points ahead of Schuring on 81 points.
In the sixth of 16 races of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland, rookie and Talent Pool driver Chester Kieffer (Schumacher CLRT) secured his best result of the season so far with fourth place. The Luxembourger, who lives only around 100 kilometres from the Belgian Formula 1 circuit, started from sixth on the grid and delighted spectators at the track and in the livestream with exciting overtaking manoeuvres. Great Britain’s Gustav Burton (Forch Racing by Atlas Ward) finished fifth ahead of Brazil’s Matheus Ferreira (Team GP Elite). Dutchman Niels Langeveld (Laptime-Performance) gave newcomer team Laptime-Performance seventh place, while Masters finished eighth. Michael Essmann (D/Team75 Bernhard) crossed the line as the best ProAm driver ahead of Sören Spreng (D/GP Elite).
“Sunshine on Saturday, rain on Sunday – Spa-Francorchamps always delivers exciting conditions. Our races were nevertheless very disciplined and now we all head to the next race weekend in Zandvoort. The action continues on Friday as part of the DTM,” explains Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.
The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland heads to Zandvoort for races seven and eight as part of the DTM programme (22 to 24 May). The dune circuit on the North Sea coast will serve as a home event for Dutch team GP Elite. In addition, six Dutch drivers will compete on home soil: Niels Langeveld (Laptime-Performance), Flynt Schuring (Schumacher CLRT), Wouter Boerekamps (Team GP Elite), Dirk Schouten (Looping by CarTech), Sam Jongejan (Team75 Bernhard) and Nick Ho (Team GP Elite).
