- Porsche one-make cup delivers thrilling action at DTM weekend
- Best rookie and Talent Pool driver Chester Kieffer (L/Schumacher CLRT)
- Dutchman Niels Troost celebrates victory on the ProAm podium
A field of 32 Porsche 911 Cup cars created an impressive soundtrack in front of the packed main grandstand at the start around midday: a total of 16,640 hp took to the 4.259-kilometre circuit through the dunes. Pole-setter Tauscher made a strong start to take the lead, while Schuring moved up from third on the grid into second place behind him. Kieffer, who started alongside Tauscher on the front row, dropped to third. Schuring, already winner of races four, five and six, saw his opportunity on lap four and overtook leader Tauscher for the top position. A spectacular crash involving three cars occurred on lap six, damaging the track barriers. The resulting race interruption led to the event resuming in the evening with a restart behind the safety car. After 17 laps, Schuring, Tauscher and Kieffer received their trophies from Karsten Sohns, CFO Porsche Deutschland. For Talent Pool driver Kieffer, third place marked his best result of the season and also earned him the rookie trophy.
South African Keagan Masters (Proton Competition) crossed the finish line in fourth place. Britain’s Joseph Warhurst (Target) finished fifth ahead of Porsche Junior Marcus Amand (FIN/Proton Competition). Theo Oeverhaus (D/ID Racing) secured important championship points in seventh position. Despite that, the driver from Osnabrück lost the championship lead to Tauscher after seven of 16 races. Tauscher now tops the standings with 114 points, ahead of Oeverhaus on 109 and Schuring on 106 points. Whether Tauscher can extend his lead after securing another pole position, or whether Amsterdam-based Schuring can make the most of his home advantage in Zandvoort, will be decided on Sunday.
The eighth race of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland starts on Sunday at 11:28 am (CEST) and will be streamed live on Joyn and the Porsche Motorsport Hub. Coverage begins 15 minutes before the start of the race. Fans outside Germany can also look forward to exciting one-make cup action, with international broadcasts ranging from SNet in Brazil and Sport 5 in Israel to DAZN in Japan.
