- Theo Oeverhaus takes over the lead in the overall standings
- Home race turns into top-10 success for Dresden’s Jonas Greif
- Sören Spreng moves to the top of the ProAm standings with a double class win
A field of 29 drivers lined up for the 30-minute race in summer temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius. Pole-setter Flynt Schuring (NL/Schumacher CLRT) lost the lead to Masters at the start. Alexander Tauscher (D/Target) slotted into third place behind Porsche Junior Schuring.
The leading trio battled closely during the first laps of the 3.478-kilometre circuit. On lap six, Schuring and Tauscher collided and were forced to retire from the race. Oeverhaus, who had started from sixth on the grid, was the main beneficiary and suddenly found himself running second.
“I saw the close three-way battle ahead of me and was already prepared to react. With the heat and the Safety Car period, during which the field closed up again, it wasn’t easy to stay fully focused. But I managed it and now I’m delighted to be leading the championship.” After ten of sixteen races, Oeverhaus tops the standings on 158 points ahead of Masters (157 points), Tauscher (150 points) and Schuring (142 points).
For Talent Pool driver Matheus Ferreira, it was another podium finish following his third-place result in the fifth race at Spa-Francorchamps. Sweden’s Daniel Ros (Team Proton) achieved his best result of the season so far by finishing fourth. The highest-placed rookie was Dutchman Sam Jongejan (Team75 Bernhard) in fifth place, ahead of fellow countrymen Dirk Schouten (Looping by CarTech) and Wouter Boerekamps (Team GP Elite). Schouten also set the fastest race lap with a time of 1:23.041 minutes. Australia’s Caleb Sumich (Target) finished eighth.
Sören Spreng (D/GP Elite) took over the lead in the ProAm classification after securing two class victories at the Lausitzring. The entrepreneur from Iserlohn received his trophy from series partner Dekra, with Guido Kutschera, Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors Dekra Automobil, congratulating all winners across the various classifications.
Local favourite Jonas Greif (GP Elite), who lives in Dresden, around 60 kilometres from the Lausitzring, celebrated his first top-10 finish of the season in front of a home crowd during the DTM weekend, which attracted 58,000 spectators. “Around 310 partners and guests came to the races specifically to support me. That makes a strong result even more special.”
“It was a genuinely hot race weekend at the Lausitzring. The action on track was equally intense and once again demonstrated just how competitive the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland is. The leading group in the overall standings is very close together, and the Rookie, ProAm and Team classifications are also fiercely contested,” said Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.
Next up for the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland is the Norisring. The sixth of eight race weekends will take place on the street circuit in Nuremberg from 3 to 5 July. Precision is particularly important in races eleven and twelve, as racing close to the barriers along the start-finish straight leaves little room for error. “A few scratches on the mirrors are acceptable, but you can also lose your car very quickly here,” said Talent Pool Coach Wolf Henzler, looking ahead to what is often referred to as the “Franconian Monaco”.
