Jäger comes as points’ leader – Brito’s unusual preparations
Stuttgart. After two victories in a row, Thomas Jäger (Germany) travels as overall leader to the fourth round of the Carrera Cup Deutschland in Zandvoort (Netherlands). With 58 points under his belt, the MS Racing PZ Hamburg Nord-West pilot is determined to defend this position on the Dutch circuit in the dunes. The 4.3 kilometre Zandvoort circuit provides drivers with a special challenge. The track runs over crests and down into dales, following the contour of the dune countryside. With many passages barely visible for the pilots and several of the corners with a negative camber, competitors need to have a particularly fine feeling for their race cars. Drivers require an extra portion of courage approaching the “Scheivlak corner”. There, the 420 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racers squeeze through a right-left combination at more than 200 kph. Exiting the so-called “Arie Luyendijkbocht”, the cars turn onto the finish straight at over 160 kph, before reaching a top speed of almost 250 kph.
Competing for Konrad Motorsport, Valdeno Brito is completing a very special training. To date, the 35-year-old Brazilian has only competed on South American race tracks, where he secured fifth in the Brazilian Touring Car Championship last year and won the One Million Dollar Race in Rio de Janeiro. In preparation for the Carrera Cup races, Brito studies onboard footage and plays computer games – with success: On the EuroSpeedway he claimed sixth and on the Norisring he saw the flag in second place just 29-hundredths of a second behind winner Jäger.
Jeroen Bleekemolen (ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen) is waiting impatiently for his first win in the Carrera Cup. The reigning champion of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup has achieved podium results at all rounds of the international brand trophy series so far – three times as winner. In the Carrera Cup, however, he has only yielded a third and a fourth place by now. On Bleekemolen’s home circuit, just a few kilometres from his hometown, he is confident of making the breakthrough.
Unlike all other championship rounds in 2009, the race in Zandvoort takes place after the DTM race. On Sunday (19 July) the Porsche pilots take off into the 19-lap sprint on one of the season’s most challenging circuits at 16.00 hours.
The television station SSN TV (www.ssn.tv) broadcasts the fourth round on Sunday live from 16.00 hours. In addition, the German TV station DSF televises highlights of the race in its “Motorsportmagazin” programme on Sunday evening. Highlights are also shown on N-TV in the programme “Speed” (21 July).
Drivers’ classification after three of nine rounds:
1. Thomas Jäger (D), 58 points
2. Jan Seyffarth (D), 52 points
3. Nicki Thiim (DK), 42 points
4. Jeroen Bleekemolen (NL), 39 points
5. Robert Renauer (D), 30 points
