As a part of the “Talents Hand in Hand” initiative within the scope of the Porsche Youth Development Programme, the five squad members met the TC Puchheim club’s inclusion team. They spent an extremely exciting and emotional day at the DTB’s training centre in Oberhaching near Munich. Under the guidance of Torben Beltz, the head coach of the women’s national team, the top talents started proceedings by putting on a show practice session before going out onto court with the tennis fans from Puchheim.
“It was wonderful seeing the kids’ enthusiasm, the openness with which they welcomed us and the sparkle in their eyes in everything they did,” was how Sonja Zhenikhova summed up her positive impressions. Her teammate Eva Bennemann added: “Taking on the coaching role was a lot of fun. The day with the kids showed us just how privileged we are being able to play tennis the way we do.”
The “Talents Hand in Hand” initiative is designed to sensitise them for social-ecological issues and to awaken their interest in societally relevant topics like inclusion, environmental awareness and healthcare.
